The renovation and extension of a large Victorian house on the edge of Hampstead Village. Dominic McKenzie Architects’ extension will replace an existing modern extension.
DMA’s proposals take their cue from the triangular gable end profiles of the main house and surrounding architecture. At ground floor level an entirely glazed dining room and lounge area will have uninterrupted views of the rear garden. To the left the space under the two gable forms will be left open to create a greater sense of place and generosity over the dining table. To the right, the upper part of the extension will contain an office space with a large picture window framing the garden. The rear extension will be clad in bronze which has been chosen to blend tonally with the existing brickwork of the main house and to allow a single material to be used for both walls and roof.
Construction will begin summer 2017.
